Father Mike Kuhn, a native of Manassas and a founding member of the Youth Apostles, was named assistant chaplain at Marymount University in Arlington in June, and Ashton Mallon has been promoted to director of Campus Ministry.

“I’m very excited to be a part of the Campus Ministry team and look forward to meeting the students, building Christ-centered relationships with them, celebrating the sacraments, teaching the faith, assisting with service projects and being a joyful presence on campus,” said Father Kuhn, who comes to Marymount from St. John’s Catholic Prep in Buckeystown, Md., where he was chaplain.

Father Kuhn has served in a variety of roles for the Youth Apostles. He was assistant principal and chaplain at Paul VI Catholic High School in Fairfax, assistant chaplain at George Mason University in Fairfax, chaplain at Siena Academy in Great Falls, and chaplain to the youth ministry program at St. Paul Chung Church in Chantilly. He was chaplain of the Catholic Campus Ministry at Old Dominion University in Norfolk.

Father Kuhn follows Father Jack P. Peterson, who was at Marymount for 15 years and is now director of mission and development for the Youth Apostles.

Mallon’s promotion constitutes a restructuring of Campus Ministry that Marymount President Matthew D. Shank said will further enhance the university’s Catholic identity and make it even more effective in reaching the entire campus community. Father Tom M. Yehl will continue as chaplain.

Mallon has been associate director of Campus Ministry since 2010. She holds a master’s degree in educational administration and supervision from Marymount and a bachelor’s degree in theology and education from Mount St. Mary’s University in Emmitsburg, Md.

“I am very excited for the year ahead and it is an honor to be promoted,” said Mallon. “I am especially looking forward to working with Father Tom to further the faith experience of our students, faculty and staff. I consider it a true privilege to create experiences for them to encounter God in a deeper way and to create a community where they feel welcomed, encouraged and loved.”
