The Catholic Daughters of the Americas Court No. 64 of St. Mary Church in Alexandria held the National Education Contest for students in grades 4-12 at the St. Mary Lyceum May 8. The themes were “Whatever you do for the least of my brethren, you do for me” and “Helping the needy where I live.” There were six first-place entries that were submitted to the state competition from the following schools: St. Mary’s School, Queen of the Apostles School and St. Rita School, all in Alexandria.
The four state winners are:
Nicholas Bus — St. Rita School, third place in Essay Division II
Olivia Dedham — St. Mary School, second place in Poetry Division I
Alexia de Costa — Queen of Apostles School, second place in Art Division II
Desmond Damico-Lassman — St. Mary School, first place in Essay Division I
Desmond Damico-Lassman of St. Mary School will move on to national competition and represent Virginia in Essay Division 1. Winners will be announced at the Biennial State and Territorial Officers’ Workshop July 13-16.
