The Bishop O'Connell Knights, coached by Darrell
Snyder, remain the only undefeated diocesan football team. The Knights thrashed the Broad
Run Spartans 35-7 Sept. 5 in Arlington.
The Knights offensive line, led by right guard Logan Wyllie, brought their
"A game," and opened some serious holes for the O'Connell backs. The Knights
bolted to a first quarter lead of 21-0 and lead 28-0 at halftime.
Scoring for the Knights was junior all-purpose threat Jeremy Trimble, who caught a
35-yard TD pass from junior quarterback Bush Hamdan and a seven-yard reception from backup
quarterback Conor O'Brien.
Hamdan scored on a one-yard run, while junior running back Steve Hendley had a 22-yard
run and senior tight end P.J. Smith had a 12-yard reception from O'Brien.
Both Smith and junior tight end Ernie Lomax had an excellent game. Lomax is also a
standout basketball player for coach Joe Wooten. Senior kicker Jon Hill made all five
point after attempts.
"They gave us some things (defensively) and we were able to take advantage of
them," said Snyder. "The kids are working hard."
"It feels great to be 2-0," said Wyllie. "We're coming together as a
team. The offensive line (center Carlos Pereira, right tackle Jeff Vandenberghe, left
guard Barry Robinson and left tackle Mike Fay) stayed on their blocks real well."
