
Parishes, Schools to Remember Sept. 11 Victims

The terrorist attacks of 2001 the tragedy and its victims will be
remembered Wednesday, Sept. 11, at parishes, schools and civic arenas throughout the
diocese.
Arlington Bishop Paul S. Loverde will celebrate Mass for victims of the terrorist
attacks at the Cathedral of St. Thomas More at 12:05 p.m. on Sept. 11.
An outdoor concert will be held at the Netherlands Carillon near the U.S. Marine Corps
Memorial in Arlington Sept. 11 at 7 p.m.
A listing of Sept. 11-related Masses and events follows. If your parish is not listed,

Parish Masses and Observances
All Saints Parish in Manassas will celebrate a Memorial Mass Sept. 11 at 7:30
p.m. For information, call 703/368-4500.
Holy Family Church in Dale City will pay tribute Sept. 11 to those who lost
their lives on that day last year during the terrorist attacks by having a display of 100
crosses on the front lawn of the church. There will also be a special Mass, to pray for an
end to violence in the world, at 7:30 p.m. at the church, 14160 Ferndale Rd. To submit the

Our Lady of Good Counsel Parish in Vienna will celebrate Sept. 11 at 7:30 p.m.
Anniversary Mass to remember the events last year, and to move forward in prayer and
peace. In a spirit of unity, all the choirs and music groups of the parish will come
together to participate in the Eucharistic liturgy that evening.

Queen of Apostles Parish in Alexandria will celebrate Mass Sept. 11 at 9 a.m.,
followed by Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament and Adoration, concluding at 7:30 p.m.
with the celebration of Mass. Following the evening Mass, a candle-light procession will
be made to the Crucifixion Garden in front of the church. For information, call

Sacred Heart Church in Manassas for will celebrate Mass at 9 a.m. Sept. 11,
followed by Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament from 9:30 a.m.-7:30 p.m. and

St. Andrew Parish in Clifton on Sept. 9, from 7 p.m.-8:30 p.m., will hold a Holy
Hour with Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament, rosary, reflections and Benediction,

St. Francis of Assisi Parish in Triangle will hold Memorial Masses, with special
prayers for victims and survivors, Sept. 11 at 8:45 a.m. and at 7:30 p.m. at the church,

St. Joseph Parish in Herndons Women's Ministry will host "A Night of
Prayer and Remembrance" Sept. 11, 7 p.m.-7:45 p.m. to include prayer and reflection,
a Boy Scout color guard presentation, readings, songs and meditations, followed by silent

St. Leo the Great Parish in Fairfax will offer Mass Sept. 11 at 7:30 p.m. to
thank God for His protection and to commend to his mercy the souls of those who lost their

St. Luke Parish in Mclean will celebrate a Mass for Peace at 12 noon at the

St. Mary Church in Alexandria will have Adoration Sept. 11 from 830 a.m.-7:30
p.m., followed by Mass at 7:30 p.m. For information call 703/836-4100.
St. Matthew Church in Spotsylvania will honor and remember those who died in the
attacks against the U.S., with Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament and rosary in the
church at 8:46 a.m. Sept. 11. At 7:30 p.m. there will be a Mass of Remembrance, in which
the Family Choir will sing selections from Mozarts Requiem Mass. For information,

St. Michael Church Choir will hold a Memorial Concert at 7 p.m., followed by a
Memorial Mass at 7:30 p.m., at the church, 7401 St. Michaels Lane (off Ravensworth,
which can be reached from Little River Turnpike or Braddock Rd.) in Annandale. For

St. Patrick Church in Fredericksburg will celebrate Mass Sept. 11 at 9 a.m.,
followed by adoration of the Blessed Sacrament until the 6 p.m. Mass. The Marian Movement
of Priests will hold its Holy Hour from 10 a.m.-11 a.m., followed by Benediction.
Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington, on
Sept. 9 at 3 p.m., will celebrate Mass and hold a crowning of the Mother of God, Our Lady
of Schoenstatt, as Queen of the U.S., in petition for peace and an end to terrorism, an
end to abortion and for moral renewal of the U.S. and the world, in the Crypt Church, at

On Sept. 11, a Memorial Mass will be celebrated by U.S. bishops at noon in the
Upper Church of the Basilica, and a Knights of Columbus Memorial Mass and Patriotic
Program will be celebrated at 2 p.m. in the Upper Church. For information call

School Observances
Seton School in Manassas will begin the school day on Sept. 11 with the praying
of the 15-decade rosary by the student body in the playground area. For information call

Ecumenical Services
George Mason University in Fairfax will host "A Day of Remembrance,"
an interfaith gathering united for peace, at the universitys Center for the
Performing Arts at 7 p.m. The event will Interfaith adult and childrens choruses,

St. Paul United Methodist Church will host an Ecumenical Service Sept. 11 at 7
p.m. at the church, 1400 G St., in Woodbridge.
