Steve Trimble Named O'Connell's New Football
Coach
Special to the HERALD
(From the issue of 12/5/02)
Steve Trimble has been named Bishop OConnell High Schools new head coach
for varsity football, succeeding longtime veteran Darrell Snyder. Snyder announced his
retirement recently after two stints at the helm for the Knights 1974 through 1981
and 1994 through 2002.
Trimble, 44, served on Snyders staff for the past three years. He was defensive
coordinator for the varsity this past season after a year as a defensive assistant. He
assisted at the freshman level in 1999.
"I am excited about the opportunity to be the head football coach at Bishop
OConnell High School," Trimble said. "The OConnell football program
will strive to be competitive in the always-tough Washington Catholic Athletic Conference
(WCAC) year in and year out.
"I would like to thank Darrell Snyder for allowing me to be a part of his football
staff for the past three seasons," he said. "Darrell has been an example of
everything that is right about high school athletics."
Trimble, a 1980 graduate of the University of Maryland and former Terrapin standout on
the gridiron, has played and coached in the professional ranks. He played for the Denver
Broncos (1981-83), the USFL Denver Gold (1984-85) and the Denver Dynamite of the Arena
League (1987). He was on the coaching staffs of the New Orleans Saints, New York Jets and
Detroit Drive (Arena League).
Trimble also has made coaching stops at the University of Colorado, Howard University,
New Mexico Highlands University and DeMatha Catholic High School.
