High School Placement Test Set for Dec. 6

Special to the HERALD
(From the issue of 11/6/03)

Ellen K. Hayes, diocesan assistant for professional education personnel, announces the fall High School Placement Test. Any eighth-grade student who wishes to attend Bishop Ireton High School, Bishop O'Connell High School, Notre Dame Academy, Oakcrest School, Paul VI Catholic High School or Seton School next fall should take this test.

The test will be administered from 8:30 a.m. until noon on Saturday, Dec. 6, (snow date — Dec. 13) at Bishop Ireton High School, Alexandria; Bishop O'Connell High School, Arlington; Paul VI High School, Fairfax; and Notre Dame Academy, Middleburg. The fee for the test is $25.

Students who plan to take the test must submit a High School Placement Test registration form together with the $25 fee to the test site no later than Wednesday, Dec. 3. Registration forms may be obtained at any Catholic school, parish rectory or parish religious education office in the diocese.

No student may take the test more than once and no seventh-grade students may take the test.

Admission to the above high schools is based on students’ total performance as indicated by their complete records. These include the permanent record of all end of the year grades K-7, the current report card for grade eight (with final marks being forwarded at the completion of the grade), all scores received from all standardized testing in grades K-7, the eighth grade STS High School Placement Test, and the eighth grade information form which provides additional evaluation for recommendation based on academic performance, participation in school activities, disciplinary record, and any other information that will allow the high school to determine the student’s potential ability. All of these materials assist the high school in placing students in courses that will meet their needs.
