The Bishop Ireton girls' track team repeated as
Virginia State Catholic Champions May 10 in Richmond.
Jessica Wolfe and Sheba Newman-Blount led Ireton with two individual championships
each, while Kristin Filler was also an individual champion. Wolfe swept the distance races
with wins in the mile and two mile runs. Newman-Blount dominated the hurdles with wins in
the 100 meter and 300 meter hurdle races.
Filler broke the state record with her 107'4 toss in the discus and placed second in
the shot put.
The 4x800 meter relay team of Margaret Vaccaro, Caitlin Conron, Kathleen Resetar and
Meghan Glassmacher captured Ireton's sixth gold medal with its victory. Not to be
overlooked in this team championship were second place finishes by Glassmacher in the 400
meter dash, Kerry Biechman in the 200 meter dash, Krissy Vornadore in the 100 meter dash,
Christina Piccinino in the 300 meter hurdles, and Sarah Kaye in the triple jump.
Both the 4x100 meter relay team and the 4x400 relay team also brought home second place
finishes. Other important points necessary for Ireton's championship were provided by Love
(third place in the 200 meter dash), Kaye (third in the long jump), Resetar (4th in the
800 meter run), Alysaa Krauss (5th in the two mile run) and Voccaro (sixth in the 800
meter run).
