The Bishop O'Connell boy’s lacrosse team defeated Archbishop Carroll 19-7, in a WCAC play-in game to improve to 6-7 on the season. The game was played May 5 in Arlington. With the win, the Knights will visit Gonzaga on May 8 (weather permitting), in the second round of the WCAC playoffs.

In the contest against Carroll, sophomore attack Joe Gargiulo led the Knights with four goals and two assists.

The Knights, coached by Brian Rosenberger and assisted by Justin Epstein, have played three games in three days due to weather related scheduling makeups.

On May 4, the "Royal Blue and Silver" dropped a tough 10-9 overtime decision to the Good Counsel Falcons, played in Wheaton, Md. (It was the third one-goal loss for the Knights this season).

O'Connell defeated the Potomac School Panthers 11-7 on May 3 in McLean. In the Potomac School contest, the Knights led 3-2, 6-4 and 8-5 after the first three quarters respectively.

Scoring for O'Connell were sophomore attack Joe Gargiulo (three goals), senior attack Zach Huntington (two, one assist), senior midfielder R.J. Constantino (two goals), junior attack Charlie Trowbridge (one, three), senior midfielder Kevin Houk (one, one), senior attack Brian Wilson (one goal) and senior midfielder Colin Malone (one goal).

"We were aggressive and we really had some intensity for this contest," said Rosenberger.

On the season, Gargiulo's 34 goals pace the Knight’s attack. Trowbridge and Constantino have combined for more than 40 goals.

The Knights have also defeated Annandale (14-9), Langley (8-5), Carroll (13-2) [during the regular season] and Paul VI (12-8) this season.

"The PVI game was huge. Everyone really stepped up versus Paul VI," said Gargiulo.

O'Connell has dropped games to Ireton, St. Mary's Rykken, Gonzaga, DeMatha, St. Johns and Woodberry Forest. (The first two were mere one-goal losses).

Other players that have stepped up this season, include junior goaltender Ricardo Vargas, senior defenseman Peter Romm, junior defenseman David Dannemiller, junior defenseman Brian Dilley, senior midfielder Mike Connell, junior midfielder Colin Davis and junior midfielder Liam O'Connell.

"It's been a fun season and right now we want to be peaking at the proper time," said Vargas.

"The team chemistry has been unbelievable. We are playing as a team this year," said Rosenberger.
