Oakcrest School Graduates Class of 2003

Special to the Herald
(From the issue of 5/22/03)

The white gowns, the mortarboards and the yellow tassels all indicate a milestone in the lives of 20 young women. These young women will become the 24th graduating class from Oakcrest School in McLean on Saturday, May 31, at 10 a.m. For these students, the close of May marks the end of their high school careers and the beginning of their college educations.

The Class of 2003 includes: Celia Alexandra Besore, Kristin Breslin, Alyssa Briggs, Julie Daniel, Suzanne Fagan, Megan Farrell, Yaminah-Gloria Gilles, Michelle Hamrah, Mary Hanssen, Meggan Hearne, Lisa Ivany, Antoinette Kilner, Teresa Kolf, Bridget Kuzma, Adele Loria, Maya Marcel-Keyes, Nicole McCuskey, Jennifer Ronayne, Ashleigh Soya and Andrea Wein.

In keeping with Oakcrest tradition, seniors Suzanne Fagan, valedictorian, and Michelle Hamrah, salutatorian, will address their fellow graduates and guests who attend the ceremony. Dr. Alan Keyes, father of graduating senior Maya Marcel-Keyes, will deliver the keynote address.

An accomplished leader and scholar, Keyes has maintained a position in the public spotlight since 1978. He has held a federally appointed office for more than 10 years, is the author of two published works and is fluent in three languages. Keyes made a bid for the office of president of the United States in 1996 and again in 2000, and captured the Republican nomination from Maryland in both the 1988 and 1999 U.S. Senate races. He is the founder and chairman of the Declaration Foundation, a non-profit educational organization that aims to restore the principles of the Declaration of Independence to "their rightful place in American life." In addition, Dr. Keyes is the former host of television talk show on MSNBC called "Alan Keyes is Making Sense" and a syndicated radio talk show titled "The Alan Keyes Show: America’s Wake-up Call."
