The Bishop O'Connell girls softball team is in
the drivers seat as the 2003 softball regular season winds down. The Knights,
coached by Tommy Orndorff, re the only undefeated team in the WCAC. Currently, the
"Royal Blue and Silver" weigh-in with an overall mark of 19-2 (12-0 WCAC).
Ireton, coached by Tom Luckett, weighs in at 15-2 overall (10-2 WCAC) a 4-3 and a 3-0
loss to the Knights. Paul VI, coached by E.J. Thomas, weighs in at 16-5 overall (10-4
WCAC).
Nine teams are in the WCAC. O'Connell has a two-game lead over second-place Ireton.
Paul VI is tied with Holy Cross for third-place.
Knights standout junior pitcher Cara L'Etoile has thrown nine shutouts and two
no-hitters this season. She also is batting .421.
Offensively, seniors "Andy" Alexander (.443), "Chucky" Simons
(.391), Ashley Eisenman (.375) and Isabel Meny-Plunkett (.300) have earned their
paychecks.
The WCAC playoffs are scheduled to commence May 13.
