Twelve Diocesan student/athletes received recognition from the
Washington Post for their fall season athletic accomplishments. With six
girls from O'Connell soccer's team earning post-season recognition, it
should come as no surprise that head coach Alberto Starace had enough
firepower to finish undefeated this past season (20-0 overall).
O’Connell’s senior striker Michelle "Mick" Imgram was named Player of the
Year.
First-team: Senior striker Laura Beth Puglisi and senior defender Melissa
Toulouse of O’Connell, in addition to Imgram.
Second-team: Senior goalkeeper Ariel Baniowski of O’Connell.
Honorable-Mention: Senior midfielder Kerry Philbin and sophomore striker
Liz Carroll of O’Connell.
The Lady Knights earned the top spot in both the Washington Post
final poll, as well as in the national poll during the 2004 season. With
Imgram, Puglisi, Toulouse, Baniowski and Philbin graduating, will Starace be
able to keep the Knights in the upper echelon of local/national soccer next
season?
Boys Soccer Honorable Mention: senior defender Ryan Frick of O'Connell
and senior striker Justin Smith of Ireton.
Girls Cross Country Honorable Mention: sophomore Nora McCall of Ireton.
Boys Cross Country Honorable Mention: senior Mark DeWine of O'Connell.
Girls Volleyball Honorable Mention: senior "hitter" Sarah Sears of Paul
VI.
Boys Football Honorable Mention: junior running back Keone Kyle of Paul
VI.
