(From the issue of 7/1/04)

Father Jack Peterson, chaplain at Marymount University in Arlington, was elected to a three-year term as general director of the Youth Apostles Institute in McLean. He succeeds Dr. Eduardo Azcarate, the institute’s founder and former director, who announced his retirement earlier this year.

Father Peterson was ordained May 20, 1989. He previously served as Catholic campus minister at Mary Washington College in Fredericksburg.

"For us to continue this great work that we all believe was inspired by God, and for us to move forward as a community after 25 years, it will have to be a group effort," said Father Peterson , who also writes a monthly Gospel commentary for the Arlington Catholic HERALD.

"I want to ask every one of you to step it up a notch," he said. "We need to beg God even more for the grace to be holy. We need to strive to make a difference in the lives of young people by bringing them closer to Christ."

Father Mike Kuhn, recently released from the Diocese of Fall River for service with Youth Apostles, will serve as assistant director for consecrated members. Mike Paquette, moderator of the Boys’ Catholic Life Community at St. Bernadette Parish in Springfield, was elected lay assistant director.
