Eleven diocesan student/athletes received recognition by the Washington Post for their winter sports accomplishments.

O'Connell junior Kate Ziegler, coached by Evan Stiles, was selected as the female swimmer of the year.

Honorable-mention swim/divers included: O'Connell senior John Dragelin and O'Connell sophomore Kaeley Boyle, as well as Ireton freshman "Briggy" Imbriglia, coached by Peggy Verducci.

Basketball first-teamers included: O'Connell seniors Marcus Ginyard and Dave Neal, coached by Joe Wootten.

Basketball fourth-teamer: Paul VI senior Kendra King, coached by Scott Allen.

Honorable-mention basketballer: Paul VI senior Danny Sumner, coached by Levi Franklin.

Wrestling Honorable-mention: O'Connell senior Kris Park, coached by Bill Carpenter.

Hockey Honorable-mention: O'Connell senior defenseman Brandon Fay and Paul VI junior defenseman Tim Schlagenhauf.
