Running back Devon Brown scored three touchdowns as the Bishop O'Connell
Knights, coached by Steve Trimble (third season), defeated Episcopal of
Alexandria 38-21 this past weekend to improve to 2-1 overall on the season.
The Knights also defeated Ireton and dropped a contest to St. Alban’s.
Amongst a number of O'Connell alumni playing college football on a
variety of levels are wide-receiver Jeremy Trimble (O'Connell '04) who is
having a banner season playing collegiately at Army; Tight-end Ernie Lomax
('Connell '03) is hving a solid season playing collegiately for Hampton
University.
The Knights will play at McNamara Sept. 24 and host Carroll on Oct. 1.
PVI Loses Shootout to Bullis
Paul VI High School, coached by Pat McGroarty (third season), dropped a
53-37 shootout to Bullis last weekend to drop to 2-1 on the season. The
Panthers have defeated Broad Run (Loudoun County) and Ireton.
Scoring touchdowns in the losing effort versus Bullis were Zach Miller
(15, eight and 80-yard scoring receptions from D.J. Mangas); Daryl Spencer
(50-yard scoring reception from Mangas); and Mangas (six-yard scoring run).
The Panthers will host DeMatha on Sept. 23 and visit Gonzaga on Oct. 1.
Ireton Falls to McNamara
Bishop Ireton High School, coached by Brian Inman (fourth season),
dropped a 19-13 contest to McNamara last weekend to drop to 1-3 on the
season.
The Cardinals thrashed Benedictine in week one but have dropped three
hard fought consecutive games since then.
Scoring Touchdowns versus McNamara were Andrew Rodriguez (one-yard run)
and a 50-yard scoring reception by Jorel Joseph. Joseph's younger brother,
Justin, paced the Cardinal ground game with 66 yards.
Both Eddie Pitts and Willis Vann recorded fumble recoveries. Pitts (32
total tackles) and Frank Curry (28 total tackles) lead the Cardinal defense
this season.
The Cardinals are scheduled to host Northampton County, N.C., on Sept. 24
and Ballou on Oct. 1.
