Former Paul VI High School basketball standout Darryl Proctor (class of
'04) is having an outstanding season for the Coppin State Eagles, a member
of the 11-team MEAC Conference whose tournament winner qualifies for the
NCAA Tournament in March.
Proctor, coached at PVI by Levi Franklin, already has been selected as "MEAC"
rookie of the week twice this season.
"Coach Franklin taught me how to be aggressive, taught me to be a player
and showed me how to take the next step," said Proctor, who also played
football for Pat McGroarty at PVI.
Proctor pumped in 20 points Jan. 10 to lead the Eagles to a 89-74 victory
on the road versus the Howard Bison. He added 18 points versus conference
foe Delaware State Jan. 8.
The freshman has had double digit rebounds in two games and leads all
freshman scorers in the conference with an 11.5 points/game average.
"My shooting inside the arc has gotten better this season," he said.
"Darryl's basketball knowledge is outstanding," said Coppin State Head
Coach Ron "Fang" Mitchell. "He plays to his strengths. He has been ‘Mr.
Consistent’ all season long."
