Paul VI Catholic High School in Fairfax will hold its graduation ceremony for the 241 students in the Class of 2005 on June 5 at 2:30 p.m. at the George Mason University Patriot Center.

The baccalaureate Mass will be celebrated by Father Michael Kuhn, Paul VI chaplain, June 3 at St. Timothy Church in Chantilly at 7:30 p.m.

Arlington Catholic School Superintendent Dr. Timothy McNiff, whose son Brad is a senior and president of Paul VI’s Student Government Executive Board, will be the commencement speaker.

Student speakers will be Valedictorian Kimberly Dear and Salutatorian Margaret Bridges. Both are members of St. Leo the Great Parish in Fairfax. Dear attended St. Leo’s Grade School, while Bridges went to St. Andrew Grade School in Clifton.

Virginia Tech University has awarded Dear the Eleanor Davenport Leadership Scholarship and accepted her into its Honors Program. Dear plans to major in industrial and systems engineering. An active participant at Paul VI, Dear was president of the Spanish Honor Society, a vice president of the Student Leadership Youth Corps and a member of National Honor Society. Outside school, she has earned her Silver Award in Girl Scouts and is a volunteer at the Fairfax Nursing Center.

Bridges will attend George Mason University with scholar award and a women’s lacrosse scholarship. Her athletic activities at Paul VI have included lacrosse, soccer and indoor track. She has been a peer mentor for three years for the Paul VI Options Program for 12 developmentally disabled high school students. Bridges served as vice president of the Latin Honor Society, a vice president of the Student Leadership Youth Corps and was a member of the National Honor Society.
