The Ireton, O'Connell and Paul VI wrestling teams turned in some excellent results the past two weekends.

O’Connell placed sixth overall at the prestigious St. Albans Invitational, D.C. (Feb. 11-12), with nearly 35 participating teams.

Spearheading the Knights: Kris Park (145 pounds) and Drew Carpenter (119) - both second place; Kyle Hastings (160) - third and Shane Hayre (171) and Eric Kurtzke (112) - both sixth place.

"Kris wrestled well. Drew had to come from behind to get the win," said Head Coach Bill Carpenter.

Ireton placed ninth overall. Leading the Cardinals: Kwinten Brown (130) - first; Mark Wu (215) - third; Nick Dight (140) - fifth; Tenaka Mutumbuka (275) and Tim Dean (152) - both seventh place.

"Kwinten's match was the first time that I've ever had a wrestler advance all the way to the Championship match in my entire time here at Ireton. Kwinten commanded his match" said veteran coach Racek (also current Edison boys soccer coach/former Ireton lacrosse coach).

Paul VI placed 17th overall. Pacing the Panthers: Conrad Andrews (140 pounds) - fourth; Alex Soltis (189) - seventh and Jonathan Kodadek (160) - eighth place.

At the Virginia Independent Schools (V.I.S.) State Championships (Feb. 18-19 at Paul VI), with nearly 35 participating teams, O'Connell again placed sixth overall.

Spearheading the Knights: Kurtzke - first; Park - second; Hastings and

Carpenter - both third place.

Ireton placed 11th overall. Leading the Cardinals: Brown - third; Dight - fourth; Dean and Andrew Murray (103) - both sixth place.

Paul VI placed 14th overall. Pacing the Panthers: Andrews and Alex Soltis - both third; Anthony Soltis (152) - fourth place.
