For the 2005 baseball season, 16 diocesan athletes received honors
from the conference. O’Connell outfielder Jon Weislow was named player of
the year.
FIRST-TEAM WCAC: From PVI — pitcher Will Naylor, catcher Robert Lamas,
first baseman Alex Gregory, second baseman Bryan Short and third baseman
Scott Eastment; from O'Connell - pitcher/outfielder Mike Laird.
Second-Team WCAC: From Ireton - catcher Billy Robbett and outfielder
Roland Haskins; from PVI — pitcher J.T. Richardson.
Third-Team WCAC: From Paul VI - pitcher J.D. Polcari, outfielder Chuck
Evans and designated hitter Trey McMenamin; from Ireton - shortstop Matt
Boucher and pitcher/outfielder Tim Sprague; from O’Connell — first baseman
Kevin Crum.
"Every team in the league is capable of winning [on any given day]. From
top to bottom in the WCAC, no one can be taken lightly," said Ireton’s Billy
Robbett.
