Bishop O’Connell junior swimmer Kate Ziegler (right) set two meet records
at the recent National Catholic High School Championships at Villanova Swim
Center.
Ziegler won the 200 freestyle (1:48.35) and the 500 freestyle (4:43.57)
in leading the Knights to a second place finish overall (311 points). Good
Counsel of Wheaton, Md., won the meet with 363.5 points.
O'Connell freshmen Caitlin Marsilii and Hilary Fritz and senior John
Dragelin also had strong swims at Villanova.
Ziegler is a two-time All-Met selection who trains year-round with the FISH, a
local swim team coached by Ray Benecki. She will be competing next weekend
in the Washington Metro Private School Championships at George Mason
University in Fairfax. Earlier this season Ziegler nearly broke the national
high school record in the 500 freestyle.
