Christendom President among Those Honored by Brent Society
Special to the HERALD
(From the Issue of 6/7/07)
The Brent Society presented its 2007 Distinguished Service Award to Christendom College President Timothy T. O’Donnell last week at its annual awards dinner. Mary Kay Clark, director of Seton Home Study, was also recognized with the same award.
“These outstanding educators are being honored for their constant achievement to authentic Catholic education,” said Joseph Strada, Brent Society president.
Robert Rice, long-time professor of English at Christendom College introduced O’Donnell.
“After Dr. Warren Carroll, no one has done more to help the growth and development of the college than Dr. O’Donnell,” Rice said.
O'Donnell was the first layman to receive both his licentiate and doctoral degrees in ascetical and mystical theology from the Pontifical University of St. Thomas Aquinas (Angelicum) in Rome. He has taught at St. John's Seminary in Camarillo, Calif., and at Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles.
He is a Knight Grand Cross in the Knights of the Holy Sepulchre and he is a consultor to the Pontifical Council for the Family. Additionally, he is the author of Heart of the Redeemer and Swords Around the Cross: The Nine Years War. He has filmed many programs for the Eternal Word Television Network (EWTN) including “Glory of the Papacy” and “Luke: Meek Scribe of Christ.”
O’Donnell, who is celebrating 15 years as college president, thanked the faculty and staff of the college for all their hard work and in particular his wife, Catherine.
Father Thomas Euteneuer of Human Life International was awarded the Brent Society’s Militantis Ecclesiae Miles (Soldier of Church Militant) Award, in honor of his defense of Church teachings against abortion and contraceptives on the “Hannity and Colmes” program on the Fox News cable channel.
The Brent Society was established in the Diocese of Arlington in 1980 and is named after the Brent family, the original Catholic settlers in Maryland and Virginia. The society continues in the Brent family’s rich tradition of public witness and fellowship, and in the promotion of spiritual, intellectual and social opportunities in living the Catholic faith.
