The Bishop O’Connell Lady Knights won their fourth consecutive WCAC softball title with a convincing 5-0 win versus the St. Mary’s Ryken Lady Knights May 12 at Wheaton Regional Park.
O’Connell improved to 26-2 overall on the season, 19-0 in WCAC contests.
Senior pitcher Kelley Engman and senior catcher Katie Nutaitis were the Knights starting battery and turned in outstanding performances.
Senior shortstop Erin Marrone as well as underclassmen including Devin Metcalfe, Kelly Miller and Tori Portell all contributed in the win.
Engman, one of a long line of standout O’Connell pitchers through the years, fanned 13 and only allowed three hits.
The O’Connell Knights and veteran head coach Tommy Orndorff, with nearly 500 career wins, will compete in the 2007 Virginia Independent Schools Tournament this week with hopes of adding to their four-year winning streak in the tournament.
