
PVI Has Strong Showing at Independent State Swim
Meet

Both the boys and girls varsity swim teams at Paul VI Catholic High
School in Fairfax had strong showings at last weekend’s Virginia
Independent Schools Swim and Dive Championships held at Hargrave Military
Academy.
The PVI girls finished third with 231 total points. St. Catherine’s
School was the overall winner (316), while Collegiate School finished
second (237). Bishop Ireton High School in Alexandria finished seventh
with 116 points.
On the boys’ side, PVI finished second to Collegiate School
with 236 points. Bishop Ireton was third (181) and Seton School in
Manassas was 14th (55).
Seton junior Nevin Cook had another outstanding meet. He placed second
in both the 200 IM (1:58.92) and the 100 breast (59.44). PVI senior
Thomas Hale-Kupiec finished third in both the 200 free (1:46.59) and
100 breast (1:01.85). Ireton’s Jack Collins was fourth in the
100 breast (1:02.70) and eighth in the 200 IM (2:05.17). PVI’s
Pat Lytle was second in the 50 free (21.88) and third in the 100 free
(48.56). Teammate Miquel Puentes was eighth in the 50 free (22.75).
Ireton’s Michael Dickerson was fifth in the 100 fly (53.89)
and freshman Angus MacDonald was second in the 100 back (54.79). Alex
Spina of PVI was seventh in the 100 back (57.37).
Ireton’s Briggy Imbriglia easily won the one meter diving competition
with 442.10 points. Teammates Jim Kuhn (third) and Ray Curry (sixth)
also had an outstanding meet. PVI’s Alexandra McCarthy placed
fourth on the girls’ side with 260.75 points.
PVI’s Tana King was third in the 50 free (24.69) and fourth
in the 100 free (53.82). Ireton freshman Alina Hall was fifth in the
50 free (24.76) and seventh in the 100 free (54.93).
Ireton’s Sarah Barham was third in the 100 breast (1:10.41).
PVI’s Kat McKinstry, Mallory Lutz and Natalie Fitz finished
seventh, eighth and ninth respectively in the 200 free.
Bishop O’Connell High School in Arlington did not compete in
the state meet. Both varsity squads will be competing in this weekend’s
Metro Championship Meet at the Germantown Aquatic Center.
