PVI's Outzen selected for Girls Nation
For the Catholic Herald
Eva Outzen, a senior at Paul VI Catholic High School in Fairfax, was selected this summer as one of two girls from Virginia Girls State to represent Virginia at Girls Nation in Washington, D.C.

Girls State is an intensive week of study where young women work together as self-governing citizens and learn how to participate in the functioning of their state government. It was held at Longwood University.

Outzen first won her city’s nomination. As her city’s representative, she spoke about health care reform in front of 600 girls and counselors. From 13 candidates, Eva was one of two girls chosen to represent Virginia in Washington.

Outzen participated as a representative of the “Federalist Party” in a mock senate session. Her health care reform measure initiative was one of five measures to pass during the mock session. She also distinguished herself as the keynote speaker for the “Federalist” Party, whose presidential candidate won.

“It was great to work with smart, talented and diverse young women who were all interested in government too,” she said.

Outzen is currently the Secretary General for PVI's Model United Nations. In this role, she is preparing delegates to attend major Model U.N. Conferences at the College of William & Mary and Harvard.
