Paul VI Catholic High School Social Studies teacher Lou Pharao has been selected as one of nine American teachers to attend the George C. Marshall International Group Austrian workshop.
In late October, Pharao and eight other American teachers will travel to Austria to meet with Austrian teachers to discuss the Marshall Plan and how it impacted Austria after WWII. George C. Marshall was the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Secretary of State and Secretary of Defense and was instrumental in ending WWI and planned the invasion of Normandy in WWII. His biggest achievement was the Marshall Plan.
Pharao has taught the Marshall Plan in his 20th-century history class last year and this workshop will help add perspective and depth to his teaching on the subject to Paul VI students
“Going to Austria will enable me to see, firsthand, the results of the Marshall Plan,” Pharao said. “Austria received over 500 million dollars to rebuild their country after WWII. Learning about the Marshall Plan and its results from an Austrian prospective will enhance my ability to present the program from direct and authenticated observation.”
