New director, regional office for Ignatian Volunteer Corps
Ignatian Volunteer Corps (IVC), a national service organization of retired men and women, recently appointed a Washington man as the director of the new Washington, D.C./Metro Maryland regional office.

Joseph E. “Joe” Jones will oversee the office, the creation of which is part of a national growth trend for IVC. The volunteer organization previously coordinated its activities in Northern Virginia, Washington, D.C., and the metropolitan Maryland suburbs through one office. That office has been split into a Northern Virginia office and a D.C./Metro Maryland branch. IVC has nearly 300 volunteers in 14 regions throughout the country.

Jones has more than 30 years experience in senior management in the nonprofit sector, including hands-on experience in volunteer recruitment, management and retention.

“When you believe, as I do, that the foundation of a meaningful, fulfilled life is service to others, then you listen very carefully when the Holy Spirit calls,” Jones said. “To me, the faith-centered service of the IVC volunteers is a manifestation of the Second Commandment. This is ‘to love your neighbor as you love yourself’ in action, and it doesn’t get any better than that.”

Jones served three years as an IVC volunteer at the D.C. Central Kitchen before assuming the current staff position. He is also a member of both The Choral Arts Society of Washington and the City Choir of Washington.

For more information on the IVC and the Washington, D.C./Metro Maryland office, call Jones at 202/210-3637 or visit ivcusa.org.
