The Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington will open the Year for Priests with a special Mass on Friday, June 19, at 12:10 p.m. in the Crypt Church. Cardinal Theodore McCarrick, retired archbishop of Washington, will be the celebrant and homilist.
Priests, religious and the faithful are invited to attend. Priests wishing to concelebrate the Mass are asked to contact the Basilica’s Liturgy Assistant, Zachary Keith at 202/281-0602 or zmk@bnsic.org.
In further observance of the Year for Priests declared by Pope Benedict XVI — which begins June 19, 2009, and lasts until June 19, 2010 — the Basilica will offer adoration of the Blessed Sacrament in the Crypt Church on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays following the 8:30 a.m. Mass, concluding with Benediction before the 12:10 p.m. Mass. This schedule is in addition to the Basilica’s regular adoration on Mondays after the 8:30 a.m. Mass and Fridays after the 12:10 p.m. Mass.
