Seniors at St. Martin de Porres Senior Center in Alexandria last week were treated to Easter baskets made especially for them by religious education students at St. Luke Parish in McLean.
Students donated toiletries and sweets, and assembled 77 baskets as part of a service project.
Catholic Charities’ Carol Augustine, program director at St. Martin, thanked the students for remembering the elderly at Easter time. The center assists seniors, age 60 and older, through wellness activities, education, shared meals, and information and referral. Seventy percent of the center’s daily attendees have incomes at or below the poverty level.
