Statement on the Death
of Bishop Kaising
(From the issue of 1/25/07)
Arlington Bishop Paul S. Loverde issued the following
statement on the death last week of Auxiliary Bishop John J. Kaising of
the Military Archdiocese:
A faithful servant of the Lord Jesus and His
Church has been called to his eternal home. With great sadness, I note
the recent death of the Most Rev. John J. Kaising, 70, Auxiliary Bishop
of the Military Archdiocese and truly a dear friend to the Diocese of
Arlington. Bishop Kaising’s tireless service to countless members
of our diocese – through numerous confirmations of our young people
and through involvement in Engaged Encounter and Marriage Encounter weekends
– was life-giving and strengthening, an enduring grace for all of
us. On the human level, Bishop Kaising’s death is truly a great
loss, not only to us in this diocese but also to the Archdiocese for Military
Services. We are consoled by these words from the Book of Revelation:
“‘…Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord…’
‘Yes,’ said the Spirit, ‘let them find rest from their
labors, for their works accompany them’” (Rev. 14:13). May
this good and faithful bishop live forever in the presence of the Good
Shepherd and continue to aid us by his prayers.
