Mount St. Mary’s Seminary in Emmitsburg, Md., beat St. Charles
Borromeo Seminary in Wynnewood, Pa., 3-0 at the Vianney Cup Sept. 30.

The soccer tournament, held this year in Emmitsburg, includes
seminarians from Mount St. Mary’s, St. Charles Borromeo Seminary, St. Mary
Seminary in Baltimore and Theological College in Washington.

For the seminarians it is about more than soccer.

“The purpose of the tournament is to bring the four seminaries
together once a year,” said Nicholas Blank, a seminarian from the Diocese of
Arlington in his third year of theology at Mount St. Mary’s. “We begin the day
with Mass, eat meals together and pray evening prayer. It is a way to foster
fraternity among the seminarians.”

Blank said one of the highlights of the weekend is seeing fellow
Arlington seminarians who are studying at the other seminaries.
