Arlington Bishop Michael F. Burbidge will celebrate Mass June 22
at the Cathedral of St. Thomas More to mark the opening of Fortnight for
Freedom 2017. The Mass will be followed by a reception in Burke Hall.

Fortnight for Freedom is an annual 14-day event held in dioceses
and parishes across the United States to raise awareness about the importance
of religious freedom. Launched in the summer of 2011 by the U.S. Catholic
Conference of Bishops, the initiative serves as a vital channel for promoting
the preservation and protection of religious liberty through prayer and
activism.

This year’s theme, “Freedom for Mission,” focuses on
the importance and value of our freedom to be witnesses to the Catholic faith
in how we pray, serve others and promote a culture of freedom.

Baltimore Archbishop William F. Lori will celebrate the closing Mass
July 4 at the Convocation of Catholic Leaders in Orlando, Fla.
