Catholic Herald receives 28 awards

The Arlington Catholic Herald
received 28 awards at the annual Catholic Media Convention in Quebec June 24,
including six first-place honors.

The paper has won a combined 62 awards over the past two years.

Multimedia designer Ashleigh Buyers received a total of 10 awards
and was named Multimedia Journalist of the Year for her combination of writing,
video production and photography on projects such as “A day in the life of a seminarian
and “WorkCamp.” 

Staff writer Zoey Maraist won six awards, including first place
for Best Reporting on the Celebration of a Sacrament and Best Coverage of
Mother Teresa’s Canonization.

The paper’s website, catholicherald.com, received first-place
honors and its coverage of Arlington Bishop Michael F. Burbidge’s installation
captured second place in the category Best Special Supplement on a Bishop’s
Transition.

The Catholic Herald earned third
place in the General Excellence category for weekly newspapers with a
circulation of more than 25,000.

story about the military father surprising his children. The other pieces in
the portfolio are also high quality. Strong storytelling and news writing.
Photography and video provide wonderful additional insight.”

Newspaper of the Year — third place — Catholic Herald Staff

Judges’ comments: “A beautifully designed paper with a
wealth of story topics and special sections. Use of color and photos makes this
paper special. The reporting in the Bishop Burbidge special December edition
was excellent.”
