National Merit finalists named

Three diocesan high school seniors were named finalists in the 2016 National Merit Scholarship Program.

The finalists include: Catherine Green and Erin Markle from Bishop Ireton High School in Alexandria and Virginia Schilder from Bishop O'Connell High School in Arlington.

The National Merit Scholarship competition begins with the Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test, which is taken in the fall of junior year. Of the approximately 1.5 million entrants, only 15,000 become finalists, eligible for 7,400 merit scholarships worth more than $32 million.
