St. Mary's Ryken junior Madie Aughinbaugh showed why she was named Washington Catholic Athletic Conference player of the year as she hurled a two-hit shutout in leading the Knights to a 1-0 victory over Bishop O'Connell High School in Arlington. It was the second straight conference title for Ryken.

The game was played May 9 at George Mason University in Fairfax.

Senior third baseman Lindsay Heinze provided most of the offense for Ryken as she clobbered two doubles and knocked in the game's only run in the first inning.

O'Connell senior shortstop Shannon Murphy had the only two hits for the Arlington squad. Pitcher Erin Sweeney settled down after a nervous first inning to hold Ryken to four hits.
