Youth Apostles pro-life essay contest announces winners

The 22nd annual Youth Apostles Institute Pro-life Essay Contest with the theme, "Message to an Expectant Mother," has selected its winners. Participants were tasked with writing a message to an expectant mother, and their entries demonstrated an appreciation for the sanctity of unborn human life as well as the necessity for sensitivity toward women in difficult situations.

Youth Apostles is a community of Catholic priests and laymen dedicated to serving youths.

The contest aimed to provide a way for young people to express their pro-life beliefs as well as offer parents and educators an activity they could use as a supplement to instruction and ministry.

The contest received 473 entries this year - the highest number Youth Apostles has ever had for a single essay contest. The top three in the senior division were: Lucy Schafer, Paul VI Catholic High School in Fairfax; Chris Schoen, Paul VI; and Caroline Ortiz, Oakcrest School in Mclean. The top three in the junior division were; John Vu, Holy Cross Academy in Fredericksburg; Rachel Startzel, Holy Cross; and tied for third place: Angelie Nguyen, Holy Cross, and Amber Redden, Angelus Academy in Springfield.
