Father Bernard E. Shlesinger III, a priest of the Diocese of Raleigh, N.C., will be ordained an auxiliary bishop of the Archdiocese of Atlanta July 19 at 2 p.m.

Bishop-designate Shlesinger, 56, served as the director of spiritual formation at St. Charles Borromeo Seminary in Philadelphia. He grew up in St. Louis Parish in Alexandria and recently gave the Lenten Day of Prayer for priests of the Arlington Diocese.

Arlington Bishop Michael F. Burbidge will be the co-consecrator at the ordination Mass.

“It is an honor to be chosen as one of the Bishop co-consecrators at his Episcopal Ordination because of the friendship and history we share,” Bishop Burbidge said. “I am very happy for Bishop Shlesinger and for those he will serve in the Archdiocese of Atlanta. The pastoral zeal and spiritual joy that were hallmarks of his priesthood will make him a great Bishop.”
