Finucane leads Knights to title
Star pitcher turns in another dominating performance.
Junior pitcher Tori Finucane transferred to Bishop O’Connell High School in Arlington last year because she wanted to compete for the Washington Catholic Athletic Conference championship. Her dream became a reality last Saturday afternoon as the Knights defeated Elizabeth Seton 5-0 to give O’Connell its ninth straight conference title. Finucane, who plans to pitch for the University of Missouri in college, gave up a total of two earned runs all season as she helped lead the second-ranked Knights to a 24-1 record. Their only loss was a 2-1 decision to top-ranked Northern in Maryland. In Saturday’s title game she gave up two hits, while striking out 10, walking two and hitting a batter. Senior left fielder Emily Simon and junior first baseman Mary Burk each knocked in two runs, which proved to be more than enough support for Finucane. In the semifinal game against Bishop Ireton High School of Alexandria, senior right fielder Jessica Eidt had four hits to pace a balanced attack as the Knights cruised to a 15-0 victory over the Cardinals. Junior catcher Jillian Ferraro also contributed to the offensive explosion.
