Fr. Pinizzotto takes new position in Italy
Oblate Father Anthony J. Pinizzotto has been appointed science director for the Instituto Formazione D’Eccellenza (FDE) in Montova, Italy.
The institute was founded as a center of research, education and training in the fields of criminology and forensic psychology. It offers students the necessary tools to acquire scientific and practical expertise in their fields of study.
Father Pinizzotto currently resides at St. Timothy Church in Chantilly. Prior to that he was in residence at St. William of York Parish in Stafford for more than 12 years.
Father Pinizzotto received a BA in English from De Sales University, an MA in forensic psychology from John Jay College of Criminal Justice, an MA in theology and pastoral counseling from De Sales Graduate School of Theology, a doctorate in psychology from Georgetown and a post-doctoral MS in clinical psychopharmacology from Alliant University.
He completed a clinical internship at Bellevue Hospital in New York City in Psychiatric Emergency and Evaluation. He was ordained a Catholic Priest in 1978. He was an instructor in Georgetown’s Department of Psychology where he taught courses in forensic and abnormal psychology and completed a year-long post-doctoral institute on the psychology of trauma at the Maryland Psychological Association/Foundation.
Father Pinizzotto was involved in law enforcement for over 25 years. In addition to his service with the FBI he worked with the Criminal Investigations Division, the Training Division, and the Fifth Police District of the Washington Metropolitan Police Department.
While at the FBI he was the senior scientist and clinical forensic psychologist assigned to the FBI’s Training Division, Behavioral Science Unit (BSU).
Father Pinizzotto has lectured throughout the U.S., Canada, Switzerland, Russia, Italy and the United Kingdom on the topics of law enforcement safety, criminal investigative psychology, personality assessment, the psychology of interview and interrogation, hate-related crimes, use of deadly force in law enforcement, suicide by cop, sensory distortions involved in critical incidents, forensic hypnosis and deviant social groups. He is the author of numerous articles reflecting his research in these fields of study and investigation. He has been recognized by the courts as an expert witness in cases involving child exploitation and pornography.
