In case you missed it: July 2
Katie Bahr | Catholic Herald

What a weekend! Between the dangerously hot temperatures and the massive power outages following Friday night’s derecho, many throughout the diocese spent the past few days clearing debris in their yards and searching for ways to cool down and keep their kids entertained.

As of today, most of us at the Catholic Herald are back in the office, with electricity and air conditioning restored. In the days to follow, we’ll keep you updated on any storm damages to local parishes or diocesan schools. In the meantime, here are a few of the articles you might have missed from the past week:

Last week, Father Randy Sly was ordained at Our Lady of Hope Church in Potomac Falls. A former Anglican priest, Father Sly was joined at his ordination by his wife of 39 years, Sandy, and his three children. He will be serving in the new Personal Ordinariate of the Chair of St. Peter. The ordinariate is similar to a national diocese for Anglican converts and was created earlier this year by Pope Benedict XVI. Congratulations Father Sly!

In this week’s column, Elizabeth Foss advised teenagers on ways to use social media for good. Also in last week’s issue: Ignatian Volunteer Corps Director Patty Holley spoke about her work serving the poor in our Journey in Faith series and parishioners of St. Philip Parish in Falls Church celebrated their 50th anniversary.

For these and other stories, including bios of retiring priests and capsule reviews of new movie releases, keep checking back here today and every day.

Thanks for reading! We hope you have a safe — and air-conditioned — week!
