Weekend planner: July 6-8
As usual, there’s a lot going on around the Arlington Diocese this weekend, with activities catering to Catholics of all ages and interests. Friday night, you can start your weekend with a purpose by joining the 40 Days for Life activists in pro-life outreach at the King Street Metro in Alexandria. Or, if you’re looking to be entertained, check out a free outdoor screening of “The Wrath of the Titans,” which will be showing at Echo Field at Mount St. Mary’s University in Emmitsburg, Md., starting at 9 p.m. If you’re looking for some quiet time in prayer, there are a few opportunities for adoration of the Blessed Sacrament this weekend, including three all-night vigils Friday at St. Agnes Church in Arlington, Holy Spirit Church in Annandale and St. Mary Church in Alexandria, and a praise, worship and adoration service will take place at St. Leo the Great Church in Fairfax Saturday. Also Saturday, there are a few opportunities for fun. The Edward Douglas White Knights of Columbus council will take a trip to Nationals Park in Washington to see the Nationals take on the Colorado Rockies at 3 p.m. Elsewhere, the city of Fairfax is hosting a free performance by the Altekameraden German Band at 5 p.m. and parishioners of St. Mark Church in Vienna are gathering at Auld Shebeen in Fairfax for an Irish Happy Hour at 5:30 p.m., which will benefit the pro-life mission work of a parishioner. Sunday, you can finish your weekend at Missionhurst in Arlington, for a Chaplet of Divine Mercy and rosary at 3 p.m., followed by a patriotic concert with Civil War era-tunes at the National Shrine of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton in Emmitsburg at 5. For these and other events taking place around the diocese this weekend, visit our calendar of coming events. To add your own events or photos, click on the “Your Herald” tab in the top right corner of our website. Thanks for reading! Have a fantastic weekend!
