A block party, complete with mechanical bull-riding, and the opening student Mass both drew big crowds last month as the Catholic Campus Ministry at George Mason University in Fairfax kicked off the academic year.
Nearly 1,000 students participated in the ministry’s social event for freshmen and new transfer students Aug. 23. It featured a petting zoo, ice cream truck, yard games, beachball volleyball, live DJ and free barbecue.
Two days later, the first Sunday Mass Aug. 25 for the fall academic semester was standing room only. Students filled campus ministry’s St. Robert Bellarmine Chapel, making it the best-attended liturgy since the pandemic.
