St. Ann School and parish held its first drive-thru and contactless food drive April 25 at its Arlington campus. Nearly 2,400 pounds of food were collected and delivered to AFAC (Arlington Food Assistance Center).
Organized by parishioners and school parents Oriana and James MacGregor, the drive offered donors a chance to drive up, open their trunk and have volunteers in masks and gloves take the donations out without ever making contact.
Missionhurst Fathers Mel Portula, pastor, and Leo Sanggaria, parochial vicar, joined school Principal Mary Therrell and a team of volunteers for the morning collection.
A grocery cart is always present in the vestibule of the parish hall so parishioners and neighbors can place food donations there for the constant need, which has increased during the pandemic.
Oriana said they hope to make this a monthly collection, even offering donation pick ups at people’s homes.
