Benedictine Sister Andrea Westkamp was elected the 12th prioress of the Benedictine Sisters of Virginia in Bristow Sept. 28, succeeding Sister Joanna Burley.

Sister Andrea will be installed and begin her term as prioress Oct. 26.

Benedictine Sister Lynn Marie McKenzie, president, Monastic Congregation of St. Scholastica, presided over the election with assistance from Benedictine Sister Elaine Fischer from the Mount St. Scholastica community in Atchison, Kan.

“I am overwhelmed by the trust the sisters place in me to be their leader for the next four years,” said Sister Andrea, who will lead 27 sisters. The Benedictine Sisters of Virginia was established in 1868 in Richmond and moved to Bristow in 1894.
