Many former Cardinal students continue to make an impact in their respective fields.
- Joe Sprague (Class of 1986) was appointed chief executive officer of Hawaiian Airlines last September after the company combined with Alaska Air Group. Previously, he was the president of Horizon Air.
- Former Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell (1972) was named the 72nd First Citizen of Virginia Beach by the Virginia Beach Jaycees last fall. He also appeared on Ireton’s alumni podcast series, “Real World Wednesdays,” available on the Ireton YouTube channel or Spotify (search “Real World Wednesdays”).
- Karla Garcia (2003) won an Emmy last September for “Outstanding Choreography For Variety or Reality Programming” for her work on the 2024 Tony Awards. Before stepping onto Broadway stages and gracing stages to accept awards, Garcia performed for audiences in Ireton’s Garwood Whaley Auditorium many times while a student there.
- Marvin Elliot (1978) recently organized and shepherded the 2nd Annual Alexandria Hoops from the Heart basketball tournament at Ireton. The daylong tournament featured four games and raised money for the Bob Pollard Scholarship and the Inova Health Foundation. An Ireton athletic Hall of Famer, Elliot bravely recovered from a serious stroke in September 2020 through hard work and dedication.
