The 2024-25 basketball season for Nyla Brooks (’25) has been a remarkable journey, both individually and as a teammate at Ireton.
With hard work and dedication, she achieved an extraordinary milestone by being named the first McDonald’s All-American in the school’s history, an honor reserved for the top high school basketball players in the U.S., adding to her list of accomplishments. Brooks’ well-deserved recognition highlights her years of perseverance, sacrifice and commitment to the game of basketball.
Over her four years playing for the Ireton girls basketball team under coach Kesha Walton, Brooks has displayed her commitment by elevating her skills while inspiring her teammates to strive for excellence. In the process of growing as an athlete during this time, she has shown great versatility on the court. Whether scoring, facilitating teammates, or locking down on defense, Brooks has constantly demonstrated her ability to contribute to the win. Her leadership has been instrumental in helping the team reach significant milestones, including winning a state championship to cap the 2023-24 season and securing top rankings nationally. This season, she showcased her talent by playing against some of the best players in the country, further solidifying her reputation as a top-tier athlete.
Reflecting on her journey, Brooks expressed immense gratitude for the support she has received from her coaches, teammates and family. “Being named a McDonald’s All-American is truly an honor, and it represents the hard work and sacrifices I have put into my game over the years. I couldn’t have reached this point without all the support,” she said.
