Father Edward J. Bresnahan will be pastor of St. Leo the Great Church in Fairfax, effective June 26.
He was born Dec. 13, 1981, and grew up at Holy Family Church in Dale City. He attended Bishop O’Connell High School in Arlington, 1995-99, and received a bachelor’s in history with a concentration in classics at the University of Dallas in 2003. He spent a year serving with NET Ministries, an organization that ministers to young people in St. Paul, Minn. He entered St. Charles Borromeo Seminary in Overbrook, Pa., earning two master’s degrees in divinity and arts, 2004-10.
Father Bresnahan was ordained by Bishop Paul S. Loverde at the Cathedral of St. Thomas More in Arlington June 12, 2010. He served as a parochial vicar at St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception in Fredericksburg, 2010-13, before being appointed as chaplain of Bishop Ireton High School in Alexandria, 2013-19. He then served as parochial vicar at St. Andrew Church in Clifton, 2019-21, and most recently at Nativity Catholic Church in Burke, 2021-present.
