St. Paul VI Catholic High School in Chantilly marked the end of its annual Hunger Action Week Nov. 17–21 by collecting more than 26,000 pounds of food and essential items to support Catholic Charities St. Lucy Food Project.
The schoolwide effort brought together students, families, faculty and staff, who donated peanut butter, pasta, canned goods, hygiene products and other staples. Catholic Charities representatives, Student Government Association members and other student leaders collected and recorded donations each morning.
A new advisory team competition encouraged participation and friendly rivalry, with daily leaderboard updates displayed in the school lobby. Each group was challenged to reach 2,000 points, inspiring remarkable engagement and teamwork.
“PVI’s collection this week has provided unprecedented support for the St. Lucy Food Project in such a short amount of time,” said James McCaskey, senior outreach specialist. “It is truly a reflection of God’s love to see over 20,000 pounds donated within a one-week time frame.”
Donations were collected at school events throughout November.
School leaders thanked students, families and volunteers for helping address food insecurity in the region.
