Our Lady of Good Counsel School in Vienna celebrated Catholic Schools Week Feb. 2-6, after reopening from the recent snowstorm, marking the occasion with prayer, service and community events.
Students marked the week with an ’80s-themed spirit day and took part in a schoolwide service project that collected 2,083 pounds of food for Catholic Charities St. Lucy Project. The effort, led by the student council, nearly doubled last year’s total by adding almost 1,000 additional pounds of food. School staff noted the strong participation from students and families.
The week also included the annual eighth grade versus faculty volleyball game — with Father I. Mathias Kumar, OSFS and parochial administrator, joining the faculty team — and a Friday morning assembly as student council members assisted in loading the food donations for transport.
The week concluded with a schoolwide rosary led by student council officers, prayed with students’ designated prayer partners. The quiet gathering offered a moment of reflection and a reminder of the school’s emphasis on faith at the center of its mission.
