Three seminarians are one step closer to the priesthood.

Diocesan seminarian John Anthony Buono was instituted as an acolyte by Bishop Timothy C. Senior of the Diocese of Harrisburg, Pa., at Mount St. Mary’s Seminary in Emmitsburg, Md., April 25. Buono is in his Theology II year of formation and is a native of St. Agnes Church in Arlington, whose pastor, Msgr. William P. Saunders, was in attendance.

Seminarians Reginald Mbiydzengeh and Didier Nformi were instituted as lectors by Bishop Senior at Mount St. Mary’s April 24. The men are in their Theology I year of formation and originally from the Diocese of Kumbo, Cameroon. They are sponsored by the Arlington diocese during their time in the U.S. After their anticipated ordination, they will spend five years ministering in the diocese.

Father Noah C. Morey, diocesan vocations director, attended both liturgies.

Lectors are entrusted with proclaiming Scripture, except the Gospel, at liturgical celebrations, while acolytes assist the priest and deacon at the altar and serve as extraordinary ministers of Communion.
