Bishop O’Connell High School in Arlington has a new first: a bishop among its alumni.
Pope Leo XIV appointed Father Emilio Biosca Aguero Bishop-elect of Venice, Fla., May 13, following the resignation of Bishop Frank J. Dewane. Father Biosca, Class of 1983, previously served as pastor at the Shrine of the Sacred Heart in Washington since 2019.
A Virginia native, Father Biosca is a member of the Capuchin Franciscan Friars and has had vast missionary experience serving with the Capuchin mission in Papua New Guinea and Cuba. He holds a bachelor’s in philosophy from Borromeo College in Wickliffe, Ohio, a master’s in theology and divinity from Oblate College in Washington, and a certificate in sacred theology from the John Paul II Institute in Washington.
