Concert in honor of three popes to be broadcast Easter weekend

“A Celebration of Peace Through Music” concert will be
broadcast April 3 at 8:30 p.m. and again April 5 at 3:30 p.m.
on WETA Channel 26. Originally filmed May 14, 2014, the
concert celebrates the canonizations of Pope John Paul II and
Pope John XXIII and the papacy of Pope Francis.

The concert was co-sponsored by Washington Cardinal Donald W.
Wuerl; Georgetown University; WETA; and the ambassadors of
Poland, Italy and Argentina, representing the native
countries of Popes John Paul II, John XXIII and Francis.

Sir Gilbert Levine conducted the concert, featuring Carnegie
Hall’s Orchestra of St. Luke’s, the Krakow Philharmonic Choir
and the Washington Choral Arts Society. Known as “the pope’s
maestro,” Levine conducted concerts for Pope John Paul II for
17 years.
